Willie Crawford--1978
A bewildered Willie Crawford shows
off the look of the 1970s. While
present day players march to the
batters box with an assortment of
pads that make them look like
modern day gladiators, Crawford is
sporting the well worn batting helmet
that didn't even have ear flaps. And
as we can see, it didn't necessarily fit
him very well either, as he wore his
baseball cap underneath in order to
fill out the helmet.

So much for protection, but then
again, that was the 1970s--- a time
when stirrups were high, uniforms
were colorful and you wore your hat
under your helmet if it didn't fit well.
