Wes Westrum--1967
Replacing an ailing Casey Stengel part-
way through 1965, Wes Westrum worked
hard as manager of the youthful Mets,
but it wasn’t enough to stop the losing.
Sure, the organization was maturing
towards a World Championship in 1969,
however Westrum would not make it to
the finish line with the Mets as ‘67 would
be his final season at the helm of New
York.
The former Giant catcher was relieved of
his managerial position in the closing
days of the 1967 season after posting a
142-237 mark over two-plus years,
though he did all he could do to make
them winner, even helping out the bat
boy, as captured by the Topps
photographer.
