World Series Game 6--1973
After the Reds took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 9th, the A's rallied in the bottom of
the ninth.
Catcher Gene Tenace would lead off with a single, but failed to be advanced
as Ted kubiak popped up a bunt. At that point Jack Billingham replaced Ross
Grimsley on the mound and Blue Moon Odom ran for Tenace. Dave Duncan would
follow with a single to send Odom to third base, setting up for the play that would end the
game. Prancing off third base, Bert Campaneris would lift a foul fly ball that Joe Morgan
would snare and ultimately toss "Odom out at the plate."
The athletic Odom, looks like he was nailed easily, as Bench waits for the ball.
We trust a close play at the plate would meant a better picture.
Editor's Note: Odom would steal six bases during his career, while being caught five
times; which is why A's manager Dick Williams chose the speedy pitcher to
pinch run. The A's would win the World Championship in seven games over the
Reds, in what would be the first three consecutive titles.
