Tommy John---1969
Tommy John was selected to four
All-Star squads, pitched in three
World Series and won 288 games in
the big leagues using two different
ligaments in his elbow and being
slight of hand.
Here in John's 1969 card, the Topps'
cameraman used a high speed
shutter to capture the crafty
southpaw. While it looks like John
threw the ball, the camera catches
him with the sphere in the glove as
the batter undoubtedly swung and
missed at a pitch he never received.
That John... he was a magician.
Rumor has it that during the later
stages of his career in the off-
season, John took his magic act to
Las Vegas, performing two shows
nightly at The Sands Hotel; three
shows on the weekends.
