Tommy Davis--1977
On September 20, 1976, The Captain &
Tennille Show debuted on ABC.
Also on September 20, 1976, Tommy
Davis was sold by the Angels to the
Royals as Kansas City was putting the
final touches on their American League
West Divisional crown.
The piano-playing Captain and his
singing wife lasted just three episodes.
Meanwhile, the 37-year-old Davis would
hit .263 in eight games for the Royals,
that included three starts as a DH and
five pinch-hitting appearances.
Unfortunately, Davis wasn't on the
playoff roster, as Whitey Herzog's
Kansas City club lost to the Yankees in
five games, highlighted by Chris
Chambliss' walk-off homer off Mark Littell
to lead-off the ninth inning in Game 5.
And by the time this card came out in
1977, neither Davis or The Captain &
Tennille were playing on the main stage.
We missed Tommy Davis... we didn't
miss The Captain & Tennille.
Editor's Note: With blue skies in the
background, a somber Davis posed for
his 1977 card most likely knowing that
he would not play next season.
