Tom Dempsey--1971
Tom Dempsey looks more like a
grease monkey who works at a body
shop, than a professional football
player. Nice sideburns and hairdo,
especially that strand that wriggles its
way down his forehead in attempted
escape from the rest of his mophead.

Hobbling due to having just half a
right foot, we wouldn't want to meet
Dempsey in a dark alley one night.

However, he does hold the NFL
record for the longest field goal in
history, when he connected on a
desperation kick of 63-yards to give
the New Orleans Saints a 19-17
victory over the Detroit Lions on
November 9, 1970.

Field Goal

With half a right foot, Dempsey would
hobble onto the field for 11 NFL
seasons.

Yet, one of the more interesting
notes, tucked away on the back of
his card is the fact that Dempsey
didn't find the NFL turf from kicking
for Ohio State, Texas or USC.
Instead, he hailed from Palormar
Junior College in California.

That, in itself, may be more
impressive than his 63-yard boot.
