Roger Repoz-1966
Labeled the next Mickey Mantle,
Roger Repoz crumbled under the
scrutiny of New York pressure. The
back of this ‘66 card touts his power
potential: “as he finished 5th on the
club in homers after coming up late in
the 1965 campaign.” His 12 long
balls in 218 at bats gave Yankee
fans hope for a bright future as the
1960s were not kind to the once
proud franchise.
So the question lies… what
happened in Kansas City and
California after the Yankees lost
patience midway through 1966, as
Repoz meandered through a career
that resulted in a .224 average with
82 dingers over nine seasons?
Hard to say, but for a short time this
good looking kid from Bellingham,
WA was wearing the pinstripes and
on top of the world.
(Editor's Note: Always loved the
name Roger Repoz... unfortunately, I
can only imagine how it sounded over
the Yankee Stadium P.A. system.
"And now batting, number forty-three,
Roger Repoz--- Repoz")
