Ricardo Joseph--1968
On September 16, 1967, Ricardo Joseph
slugged an 11th inning pinch-hit walk-off
grand slam off Dodger reliever Ron
Perronoski as his first major league
homer made a winner out of the Phillies.

Come December, we suspect a young
photo editor for Topps was in a panic
mode as the only picture they had of the
first baseman was that of a snarly
Joseph in a Kansas City A's uniform from
back in 1964.

As we can see, it had to do.

However, Joseph's rise to the big
leagues shouldn't have been a total
surprise; as in 1967 Joseph hit .300 with
24 homers for the Phillies' Triple-A club
in San Diego. His game-winning home
run was the highlight of his September
call up as he filled in for an injured Dick
Allen. Joseph would go on and enjoy the
next three seasons in Philadelphia,
backing up Allen at first and Tony Taylor
at third, while shagging an occasional fly
ball. He would send 13 big flies over
fences for the Phillies, hitting .245 along
the way.

Yet, he still wasn't afforded a new picture
in 1969 as we can observe below.

But it was good to see that by 1970,
Joseph was photographed in a Phillies
uniform.

And he celebrated with a smile!
