Ray Moore--1963
While command eluded Ray Moore
throughout his career, it didn't stop the
right-hander from enjoying a small
measure of big league success.

Originally with the Dodgers in the early
1950's, Moore would be moved to the
perennial second division Orioles, where
he would win 33 games over three
seasons despite logging walk totals of
80, 99 and a league-leading 112 passes
in 1957.

Shipped to the White Sox in '58, Moore
would eventually shift to pen work.
Traded to Washington in 1960, the
hard-thrower would register 13, 14 and 9
saves for the Senators and Twins as he
led Minnesota in appearances in '61-'62.

With steely eyes, here Moore poses for
his final card. Showing gray on the
temples despite being just 37 years old
at the time, Moore looked more like a
man of fifty. We theorize this is a result of
constantly being behind in the count for
most of his 11-year big league career.

Here is a nice piece on the life and times
of Ray Moore:

Editor's Note: Moore would go 63-59,
4.06 with 46 saves during his career. He
