Randy Lerch--1978
One of the best parts of Halloween this
year was being able to watch the reruns
of the original Addams Family TV Show.
Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Cousin
Itt, but my favorite was Lerch.
The groan after introducing a visitor,
tickling the ivories of his harpsichord and
of course, "You Rang."
Classic.
That's why growing up in the 1970's, it
was great to be able to watch Lerch pitch
for the Philadelphia Phillies.
A skinny lefty with a good arm, Lerch
would post ten or more victories for the
Phils from 1977-79, helping them reach
the playoffs in 1978.
He would finish with a 60-64, 4.53 career
mark in 11 seasons, before going on to
be a consultant for the 1991 movie The
Addams Family.
(Note to kids: Don't eat all your candy on
the first day!)
