Randy Bass---1982
Hard-hitting Randy Bass played for
five teams in parts of six major
league seasons before finding fame
and fortune in the Far East . Bass
toiled in a total of 13 games with the
Twins, Royals and Expos from 1977
to 1979 before spending parts of
three seasons with the Padres. Most
of his major league experience took
place in 1981 when the first baseman
appeared in 69 games, batting .210
with four home runs while going 5-for-
19 as a pinch-hitter.

Traded from San Diego to the
Rangers during the 1982 season,
Bass signed with Japan ’s Hanshin
Tigers in 1983. He hit 202 home runs
in six seasons, including a league-
best 54 roundtrippers in 1985 and 47
in 1986, and was named the Central
League’s Most Valuable Player in
1985.
