Norm Siebern--1968
"Norm!"

A teammate of Sam Malone, Norm was
always given a warm greeting by the
patrons of Cheers, despite hitting just
.149 in 80 at bats for the Red Sox in
parts of two seasons.

This would be his last card.

"So Long Norm."

Editor's Note: Originally signed by the
Yankees, Norm Siebern was part of the
package that sent Roger Maris to New
York in time to hit his 61 steriod-less but
asterisks noted home runs.

A lefty swinger who showed a little pop,
but not much production in the Big
Apple, Siebern thrived in Kansas City for
four seasons. Representing the A's at
three All-Star contests, Siebern
averaged 19.5 homers, 92 RBI and a
.289 average during his K.C. days.

What is more impressive was Siebern's
batting eye, as the first baseman walked
(343) more times than he fanned (329)
during the quartet of seasons with the
A's.

Siebern would be shuttled to Baltimore,
California, San Francisco before landing
in Boston in time to join the Red Sox in
the '67 World Series against Roger
Maris and the Cardinals. It was a version
of "baseball's circle of life."

While I remember this card during my
infancy of card collecting, I didn't know
much about Siebern--- until now.
