Mike Lum---1978
The pride of Honolulu, Mike Lum
owns three distinctions:
1. Of the 38 major league players to
have hailed from our 50th State;
Lum played in the most games---
1517, collected the most hits (877),
home runs (90) and RBI (431)
amongst Hawaiian-born players.
2. The left-handed swinger was an
accomplished pinch-hitter, collecting
103 pinch hits over his 15-year
career.
3. Lum was the only player to have
pinch hit for home run king Hank
Aaron; he banged out a double on
May 21, 1969 in a blowout game
versus the New York Mets.
Lum went on to become a long-time
minor league coach and hitting
instructor for the White Sox, Giants,
Royals and presently with the
Milwaukee Brewers organization.
