Mike Davison--1971
Hailing from Augsburg College, a
tiny Division III school in
Minneapolis, one would think that
Mike Davison would be in the
Auggies Athletic Hall of Fame--- but
he is not. Evidently, even though he
is the only Auggie ever to grace a
major league diamond; his
performance at the highest level did
not garner him enough respect to
be enshrined in their HOF.
Maybe it was because the lefty
gave up more hits (48) than the 38
innings pitched while hurling in 32
career outings for the Giants during
the 1969-70 seasons. Or perhaps it
is because his wildness led him to
walk almost as many batters (22)
than he struck out (23) in the bigs.
Possibly it was because, when
placed on a good club such as the
1970 Giants, Davison still was a
losing pitcher going 3-5.
Hard to say; though it appears that
the Augsburg College Hall of Fame
voting committee is one tough
cookie.
Editor's Note: That is one mean
looking George Foster on the card.
