Mike Davis--1985
Mike Davis did an okay job of sizing
up bats in the 1980's. Patrolling right
field for the middle-of-the-pack
Oakland A's, Davis annually hit
around .270 with 10 to 20 long balls
for five seasons (1983-87). All
totalled, he hit .259 over ten big
league seasons, while appearing in
the 1988 World Series with the
Dodgers.
However, after being a third round
pick by the A's in 1977, the product of
Herbert Hoover High School in San
Diego did not turn out to be the most
outstanding alumni to ever grace a
major league diamond.
That distinction belongs to one of two
"Ted's"; either Ted Williams or Ted
Giannoulas (aka. The Famous
Chicken)... which is too close to call.
After all, the guy in the chicken suit
holding up a poster of Farrah Fawcett
while coaching first base was pretty
darn funny.
Editor's Note: Davis did manage to
outhit his younger brother, Mark, who
failed to collect a hit in two big league
at-bats for the Angles in 1991.
