Larry Jaster--1969
He’s in the Hall of Fame???

While baseball will add seven new
members to their Hall of Fame in 2010,
highlighted by the induction outfielder
Andre Dawson; there are many little
corners of the Hall that honor the rare
achievements of our National Pastime.

Take for example, Larry Jaster, who in
1966 dominated a team like no other
pitcher had in the history of the game---
and he did it against the National League
Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

During his rookie year, the southpaw with
a good curve ball shutout the Dodgers
five times to set a major league record.
The quintet of shutouts topped the
Senior Circuit as Jaster posted an 11-5
record for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jaster’s Five Shutouts of the Dodgers in '66:
April  25            at Los Angeles    2-0
July 3                 at Los Angeles   2-0
July 29               at St. Louis         4-0
August 19          at Los Angeles   4-0
September  28   at St. Louis        2-0

He would toss just two more shutouts in
his career that lasted seven years;
logging a 35-33, 3.65 mark for the
Cardinals, Expos and Braves.

Sure enough, the feat is highlighted at
the Baseball Hall of Fame, as Jaster's
picture and a ball note his
accomplishment.

Editor's Note: I scouted alongside Larry's
son Scott, who worked the Midwest area
for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the late
1990's. Scott signed, most notably,
Brandon Webb and Dan Uggla
