Kurt Bevaqua--`976
Kurt Bevacqua blows… the biggest
major league bubble of 1975. I don’t
know which is more amazing--- that
the players actually participated in
this contest or that Bazooka had a
bubble measuring caliper.
A prototypical super utility player of
the 1970s, Bevacqua hit just .236 in
970 games that covered 15 seasons
and most positions. But, for me he
had one of the coolest last names of
the decade. Just give it an
announcer’s go (cup your hands and
cover your nose and mouth), “Now
batting for the Milwaukee Brewers,
number eleven, Kurt Bevacqua, BE-
VAC-QUA.”
Editor's Note: For the record,
Bevacqua's winning bubble was 18-
1/4", as he downed Philadelphia's
Johnny Oates and his 15-1/4"
bubble. Bevacqua earned $1000 for
charity, while Oates won $500 for his
charity.
