Kurt Bevacqua--1986
We haven't given much thought to the
1984 World Series, after all, it was a 4-1
quickie as the Detroit Tigers easily
handled the San Diego Padres. The
rosters were filled with names as Barbaro
Garbey, Mark Thurmond, Rusty Kuntz
and of course our favorite: Kurt
Bevacqua.

It was exciting times for the Padres, who
for the first time in their history found
themselves playing in the Fall Classic.
However, behind the strong pitching of
Jack Morris, who registered two wins and
Alan Trammell's two long balls and a .
450 average--- the Tigers rolled over the
Pads.

Trammell would garner MVP honors for
the Series.

Yet, for San Diego our friend Kurt
Bevaqua stood tall, hitting .412 with two
homers. His 3-run homer off Dan Petry in
Game 2 helped lift San Diego to their
first (and still only) World Series victory.

For this reason, Kurt Bevacqua is an
icon in San Diego Padres history... and
why his is one of our favorites here at
Cardboard Gods.

Here's a nice piece where Bevacqua
recounts his 1984 World Series
experience:

"Where've you gone, Kurt Bevacqua?"

Of course, here is our earlier card of
Kurt Bevacqua in case you missed it...
