Ken Patterson--1991
It is amazing how Ken Patterson could
pitch in 102 games prior to the start of
the 1991 season and this was the best
shot Upper Deck could come up with
for the lefty. We can’t see his face and
by all guesses, the holder may
actually think they are looking at the
card of an infielder instead of a pitcher.
Patterson would appear in a major
league uniform during parts of seven
seasons compiling an impressive
14-8, 3.88 mark in 224 outings. He
also holds one of the rare distinctions
of playing for both Chicago franchises
during his career, as Patterson was
packaged with Sammy Sosa in going
from the White Sox to the Cubs for an
aging George Bell in the infamous
1992 trade.
Elbow surgery derailed the southpaw’s
career in 1994… he did not make a
comeback as an infielder, though it
appears that he handled this ball
cleanly.
(Editor’s note: Patterson would
strikeout in his lone major league
plate appearance against St. Louis’
Omar Olivares on Sept. 19, 1992.)
