Joe McIntosh--1976
With an intent stare towards an
imaginary catcher, Joe McIntosh in 1976
was looking forward to a long career on
the mound. Just 24 years-old and in the
Padres rotation the entire previous
season, the right-hander had already
notched eight big league victories.

However, shoulder problems would derail
his career in '76 and McIntosh would
never post another major league win.
With his eight major league victories
McIntosh ranks fourth in career wins
amongst players born in the State of
Montana.

While he may not have challenged Dave
McNally and his Montana-leading 184
victories, McIntosh most certainly would
have topped Johnny Couch who logged
29 wins for the Tigers, Reds and Phillies
in the 1920s. He also would have held off
Jeff Ballard and his 41 wins accumulated
in the 1980s and 1990s with the Orioles
and Pirates.

Ahh, what could have been.

Well, on this Tax Day of 2011, we post
Joe McIntosh's card for we understand
that following his career the native of
Billings, Montana went on to be a tax
lawyer.

So, today is our day to remember the
right-hander whose last name reminds
us of apples... we may need him after in
the future.

Here is an article on Joe McIntosh for

Editor's Note:  In a Baseball Digest
article (October 1976) Joe's hobby was
mentioned as trains, which is most
appropriate since he pitched collegiately
at Washington State University in
Pullman, WA.
