Joe  Borchard--2003
I was in Chicago the other day watching
the White Sox and the mid-game
scoreboard stumper was:

Which White Sox player has hit the
longest home run in the history of US
Cellular Field?

I started going through the list in mind:
Frank Thomas... Jim Thome... Paul
Konerko... maybe Bo Jackson got ahold
one...

Nope, it was Joe Borchard.

The backup outfielder took Phillies
right-hander Brett Myers deeeeep--- 504
feet--- on September 30, 2004.

The 2-run, second inning blast started
the scoring for Sox that day, as Chicago
would beat Philadelphia, 9-8. For
Borchard, it was his third homer of the
season and sixth of his young big league
career.

All totalled, Borchard would connect on
26 long balls during his six-year major
league career.

And that's another example of why
baseball is such a great game... for on
any day, any player may has the chance
to etch his name in the record books.
Just like Joe Borchard did on September
30, 2004.
