Jim Lemon--1969
Handed the keys to the Washington
Senators for the 1968 season,
former All-Star outfielder Jim Lemon
was un- successful in his lone
managerial ride.

With a club that featured slugger
Frank Howard in the lineup, but also
included anemic swinging Paul
Casanova behind the plate, someone
named Ed Stroud in right field and
13-game loser Frank Bertaina in the
rotation; Lemon was unable to turn
the Senators in the right direction as
the Washington club finished in dead
last with a 63-98 record. In short,
Lemon was driving a lemon down a
dead-end street.

While it was good enough to land him
in the Topps 1969 set, it wasn't
enough to keep the job, as we see
on the back, he was fired before the
next season.

It begs us to wonder why Topps even
bothered to put out a managerial
card for Lemon in '69?

They can't claim to have not had him
on a 1968 card, as we see below...

And they can't make the excuse of
wanting to use a new picture for '69,
as it is the same photo as the
previous year.

Thus, this continues to be one of
life's little mysteries, that we have
never solved... and probably never
will.
