Jack Billingham--1976
Perusing the World Series records, we
were surprised and impressed to find
Jack Billingham's name perched atop of
the list of pitchers with the lowest ERA
over at least 20 innings pitched.

Pitching in three World Series' (1972, '75
& '76) for the Cincinnati Reds, Billingham
posted a minuscule 0.36 ERA in seven
outings that covered 25-1/3 innings.

His body of work during his World Series
games bested Babe Ruth, Sandy Koufax
and the great Christy Mathewson.

Interestingly, looking at Billingham's
profile on Baseball Reference web site, it
notes that the right-hander is the cousin
to Christy Mathewson.

Maybe it was just karma...

Editor's Note: The right-hander would
post a 145-113, 3.83 mark in 13
seasons, with two wins during his World
Series time.
