Henry Cruz--1978
I often mistook Henry Cruz for Hector
Cruz and occasionally confused him with
Pablo Cruise.
Maybe it was the glasses that threw me
off.
Editor’s Note: Henry Cruz was a light-
hitting back-up outfielder for the
Dodgers and White Sox in the mid-1970’
s. Possessing neither great power nor
speed, Cruz roamed all three outfield
spots during his 171 games in the bigs,
hitting .229 along the way. Though his
parents were of Puerto Rican descent,
Cruz was one of eleven big leaguers to
have been born on the Virgin Islands.
