Hector Torres--1969
After hitting .223 as the Astros starting
shortstop during his rookie campaign in
1968, Hector Torres gathered the
cardboard hardware by being named a
Topps 1969 All-Starr Rookie.
However, the highlight of his career at
the time was captured in cartoon on the
back of Torres' card, as the shortstop
was a star at the Little League World
Series as Monterrey, Mexico won the title
in 1958.
As of 2011, Torres was one of thirty big
leaguers to have played in both the
major leagues and the Little League
World Series. (CBSsports.com)
A defensive whiz, Torres would hit .216
in nine big league seasons... and yet, his
career highlight most likely remained his
Little League Stardom.
