Don’t even think about messing with
Frank…
A defensive-minded catcher, the back of
House’s 1959 card comes with a warning
to all prospective base runners to avoid
all collisions with Frank at the plate:
“Frank is a powerhouse behind the
plate. Any player who tries to bowl
him over in a skirmish at home will
have bruises to remember hard-
playing Frank.”
And he also tossed out an impressive
47% of base stealers during his ten
seasons in the bigs--- so don’t try to run
on him either.
Nope, don’t mess with Frank.
Editor’s Note: The big dollar signee out
of Bessemer High School (AL) by the
Tigers, House would bat .248 during his
career which also included stints with the
Athletics and Reds. Nicknamed “Pig”,
House would serve in the Alabama State
Legislature after his playing days.
