Eddie Fisher--1966
I would be smiling too if I had been
married to Debbie Reynolds and
Elizabeth Taylor, with Connie
Stevens off in the near future….
Opps, wrong Eddie Fisher.
We think this Eddie Fisher is smiling
after having a career best season in
1965, logging a 15-7 record, while
posting the second best ERA (2.40)
in the American League. Working out
of the pen in with a wicked knuckle-
ball, Fisher notched a career-high 24
saves, second best in the junior
circuit. The right-hander was so
effective that he was named to his
only All-Star squad, tossing two
scoreless innings in the AL’s 6-5 loss
in '65.
Of course, he could have been
smiling in anticipation that in 1966 he
would be traded to the eventual
World Champion Baltimore Orioles.
He didn’t get to pitch in the series,
but he had a great seat as the Birds
steam-rolled past the Dodgers in four
games.
Then again, he may be smiling by
thinking of all people who ask him to
sing, but only get shown how to hold
a knuckleball.
