Eddie Bockman--1949
Eddie Bockman supplied a little pop but
not much average as a utility player for
the Yankees, Indians and Pirates in the
late 1940s. All totalled with a bat his
hand, he would hit .230 with 11 long balls
in 474 at-bats spread out over four
seasons.
However, put a stopwatch in his hand
and he was a master scout.
I enjoyed getting to know Eddie during
the 10 years we were together with the
Florida Marlins in the 1990s.
Unfortunately, Eddie passed away on
September 29, 2011.
Here is a link Larry Bowa 1975 to the
Larry Bowa card that was on this site
previously, where Eddie recounts his
"Secret Signing."
