Doyle Alexander---1978
With the Detroit Nine losing the first seven
games to start the 2008 season, Tiger
fans need to be reminded of a darker day,
say: August 12, 1987.
Oooooohhhhh Boy...
That was the day Detroit traded a 20-year
old John Smoltz for aging right- hander
Doyle Alexander. While Alexander did
finish the '87 campaign a perfect 9-0 mark
in helping the Tigers to playoffs,
however the Tigers lost to the Minnesota
Twins in 5 games.
In the end, Alexander posed a 29-29
record for the Tigers over two-plus years,
while Smoltz gathered over 200 wins (and
counting) and 154 saves for the Atlanta
Braves.
Oh yes, and one World Championship.
And quit chuckling
Chicago Cubs fans,
because we have plenty
of Lou Brock cards in the
file... and we know how
to use them!
Giants fans, we can talk
about good ol' George
Foster too.....
