Don Heffner--1966
If Don Heffner’s name hadn’t
appeared on this card, one could
have easily thought that Jimmy
Durante was manager of the Reds
1966. But then again, the Reds
went just 37-46 to open the ’66
season before Heffner was fired at
the All-Star Break, so maybe it
really was Durante in the uniform
while Heffner was working the Las
Vegas Strip.

Editor’s Note:  Heffner batted .241
during 11 big league seasons for
the Yankees and St.Louis Browns,
holding down starting second base
chores for the lowly Browns from
1938-42. He was also a long-time
coach at the major league level.
The 1966 season was to be his
only big league managerial gig.
