Dan Osborn--1976
On This Date in Major League
History, December 12, 1975…

On this date, December 12, 1975, the
Chicago White Sox employed a trading
spree in an attempt to retool a team that
went 80-80 in 1974.

First they traded Dick Ruthvan, who was
acquired two days prior from the Phillies,
along with Ken Henderson and Ozzie
Osborn for Larvell Blanks and Ralph
Garr.

Then, then Sox traded Blanks to
Cleveland and for second sacker Jack
Brohamer.

After that, Chicago traded pitcher Rich
Hinton and catcher Jeff Sovern to the
Reds for reliever Clay Carroll.

To finish the day, the Sox dealt Lee
Richard to the Cardinals for Buddy
Bradford and Greg Terlecky.

Hold it now... Ozzie Osborn was a
baseball player???

Actually, Dan Osborn was nicknamed
Ozzie; but it is interesting to see that on
many web sites, including Baseball
Reference.com,  he is listed as Ozzie
Osborn.

A consistent winner in the minors
bouncing between starting and relieving;
Osborn would register a
3-0, 4.50 record in 24 relief outings
during 1975, his lone year in the bigs.
Command was obviously not his forte' as
he walked 37 batters while fanning 38 for
the Pale Hose in '75.

He would not retire to become a singer.
