Dan Fife---1974
Contrary to urban legend, Dan Fife is
not a second cousin to Barney Fife.
While there is a similarity in the nose,
eyebrows and chin, that is about it.
Oh, yes, Dan Fife was as accurate
with his pitches as Barney was with
his gun.
The hurling Fife was a wild one,
having walked 33 batters in 56 major
league innings during parts of two
seasons with Minnesota. In coming to
the Twins, Fife arrived with cash from
the Detroit Tigers for Jim Perry, who
at the time became the first "5-10"
player to okay his own trade.
Fife retired from baseball to become
a basketball coach at Clarkston (MI)
High School. He coached his sons at
Clarkston; Dane went on to hoop it at
Indiana under Bobby Knight before
becoming the youngest Division I
head basketball coach at age 26 in
2006 at IU-Fort Wayne.

"Now here at the Rock we have two
rules. Memorize them until you can
say them in your sleep. Rule number
one: obey all rules. Rule number two:
no writing on the walls."---Barney Fife
