Bruce Look--1969

I was driving down the road the other day
listening to one of the comedy channels
on XM radio. I do not remember the
comedian's name, but he was telling the
story of a friend who bought a dog and
named it "Sit."

His routine talked about how confused
the dog was as his friend would
constantly say to the mutt, "Come here,
Sit."

"No... come here, Sit."

"COME HERE! SIT!"

The image of the little dog taking a step
and sitting obediently, lefty me chuckling
on down the road.

A few days later I came across this card
and wondered if Bruce Look had similar
instances in his life.

I could imagine Twins' manager Cal
Ermer in 1968 calling for his catcher to
come warm up a pitcher in the bullpen
during spring training.

"Come here, Look."

"No, come here, Look."

All the while, the catcher would take a
few steps towards his manager then stop
and look around.

Look would eventually get to the bullpen,
when Ermer figured out the magical
phrase, "Hey Look, come here."

And that brings me to Arthur Carlson,
station manager of
WKRP, who was
played by Gordon Jump...

Editor's Note: Look would backup John
Roseboro during the '68 season, his
lone year in the bigs. The 5'11, 183 lbs.
catcher would hit .246 in 59 games,
driving in nine, but never connecting on a
big fly. Look would toss out 30% of
would-be base stealers in his reserve
role. He is the also the younger brother
of former White Sox outfielder, Dean
Look, who went hitless in six AB's during
1961.

"Hey Dean, Look."
