Bill Hepler--1967
We find it interesting that a pitcher who
would walk twice as many batters than he
struck out in the big leagues would dot
his eye with a “star.”
We guess that is why Bill Hepler lasted
just one big league season.
Editor’s Note: Control issues followed by
arm woes highlighted Hepler’s six-year
pro career. The skinny left-handed
curveballer with big ears and a bigger
ball cap would go 3-3, 3.52 in 37
appearances for the Mets in 1966. A
blogger on another site noted that if he
pitched during an era when ESPN’s
Chris Berman was announcing, that the
southpaw would be referred to as
“Hamburger” Hepler. Nice.
