Bart Shirley--1967
Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen): Can you
fly this plane, and land it?

Ted Striker (Robert Hays): Surely you
can't be serious.

Dr. Rumack: I am serious... and don't
call me Shirley.
                       Airplane, 1980

A .266-hitter in nine Triple-A seasons,
Bart Shirley could only muster a .204
mark in 75 big league games to go with a
.948 fielding percentage. We wouldn’t
call him a poor player, after all he did
make it to the majors, but we can call him
Shirley.

Editor’s Note: The BR Bullpen notes that
Shirley played in a franchise-leading 977
games for Triple-A Spokane during his
minor league days.
