Al Kaline--1966
What caught our eye here was the
cartoon on the back of Al Kaline's 1966
card:

Al has an All-Star batting average
  of .345.

That's pretty impressive...

But, there were still a few more All-Star
games to be played after this '66 card...
and Kaline didn't waiver with age.

In the end the Tiger outfielder would hit
  .324 in All-Star competition, scoring
seven runs and driving in six runs in 13
contests. He would also hit two homers,
collecting long balls in '59 (Lou Burdette)
and '60 (Bob Buhl).

He was a star who shone bright when
amongst the other stars.

Like we said, impressive...

Editor's Note: The simple uniform of the
Tigers combined with the basic layout of
the cards in '66 make this Kaline issue a
classic. The Tigers, like many clubs in
the '60s wore numbers on their sleeves
for reasons we can not explain.
